Congratulations to Padraig Whelan, former club player, who made his Allianz Football League debut for London against Waterford in Dungarvan on Sunday last and aquitted himself well.

JUVENILE

The parish football league continued last Saturday with another two very good football matches played.  Conor Brennan took on Dylan Walsh and it was good to see the younger players come very much to the fore.  Dylan Fitzgearld gave a man of the match performance, while Eoin Corbett played very well in attack.   Jack Moloney gave an outstanding display in defence with tough tackling and excellent blocking.   On Conor’s team Roris Stioca was very good on goal while John Hickey and Darragh Howard tried valiantly.   Dylan’s team came out on top in the end.   The match between Tommy Allen and Davy English was a very close affair.  In the first half Davy English and Conor Cashman were the dominant players with Mickie Lonergan and Adam Lonergan commanding the defence, and Paulie Barrett and Tiarnan McLaughlin the chief scorers   In the second half Tommy’s team really got into the game and came from a five-point deficit at half time. David Richards was again on top form in goal.  Keelan Looby was now getting a grip of things and played an excellent second half.   Kenneth Cunningham got some excellent scores.  Tommy’s team eventually won the match but it was very close.   Next Saturday we are at it again in Duneske at 1.30. We would encourage as many parents as possible to come along and support the players.

The bus to the Tipperary v Kilkenny match in Thurles will be leaving from the main field at 5.30 on Saturday evening.  Our own Dean Lonergan will be playing in the County Vocational schools match which is on ahead of the senior game, and it would be good to go and support both Dean and Tipperary.

The U16 squad played a challenge match against Blarney in both hurling and football on Sunday.  Keelan Hickey and Eoin Doheny were their usual excellent selves in the football and Conor Casey shone in the hurling.  These were two very good games with Blarney winning the football and Cahir winning the hurling.

The club is now piloting an idea of a boot exchange. As we all know children will grow out of boots more often than wear them out and it can become very expensive. To this end it is hoped that parents with boots that are gone too small for their own children and are in reasonably good condition would donate them to the club and perhaps others could use them.  Anyone interested in donating or getting boots can ring or text 086 3964070 and we will see how it goes.
